Hyperlinks Not Working in Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer Tips Posted by Shawn DesRochers September 2nd, 2007Has this ever happened to you? You’re surfing the web using Internet Explorer and click an external link from a web page only to receive a blank page. You then try other links on the same page or other web sites only for it to keep popping-up a blank page.
Well you’re not alone; many users of Internet Explorer have run into this very same problem. What has happened is Internet Explorer has a file corrupted or a setting has been changed.
Its usually do to a recent browser crash, browser hijacking, or a virus that altered your browser setting.
To correct this error in Internet Explorer do the following steps.
- Go to Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll
- Once complete click Ok.
If that didn’t resolve the problem, repeat the process by running the following additional entries to repair Internet Explorer:
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Msjava.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
- Start -> Run -> Type regsvr32 Browseui.dll
This last command is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.
8. Start -> Run -> regsvr32 Shell32.dll
If the above still didn’t resolve your issue, try the following.
- Open Internet Explorer
- At the top select Tools -> Internet Options
- Click on the Programs tab
- Click on the Reset Web Settings button

I need additional assistance … the command ‘regsvr32 Shell32.dll’ corrects my issues with hyperlinks not working BUT the correction lasts for one web page – if I run the command again and refresh the page the links are active … what is happening that the command needs to be rerun ??
thank Colleen
