If you’re like me and like to keep everything organized and have everything in it’s own place for easier access then this is for you.

By default Windows will not sort your Start Menu or Favorites in order. They are normally placed in the order they where installed or bookmarked, which makes it difficult for some users as you have to hunt for your programs in the start menu or go through a long list of favorites finding that one specific bookmark.

So lets fix it so you’re Start Menu or Favorites are sorted alphabetically, with a quick registry edit.

  1. Go to Start -> Run -> Type Regedit and hit OK.
  2. Navigate to the following using the left hand menu            HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/
    CurrentVersion/Explorer/MenuOrder
  3. You will now see your Start Menu and Favorites Menu folders.
  4.  In each there is a value called Order simply delete the value by right clicking on the right hand side and select delete or rename and then restart your computer.

Now your Start Menu and Favorites should be sorted alphabetically.
