How to allow Network Access using a Blank Password in Windows Vista
Wednesday, September 5, 2007 21:52Posted in category Windows Vista Tips
If you have a local area network installed at home you probably have noticed when browsing the network in Windows Vista, it requires users on the same network to use a password to access any computer in the Workgroup.
To change this setting will need to launch the Group Policy Object Editor in Vista.
- To do this Go to Start -> Run and type gpedit.msc
- This will allow you to edit the Group Policies
- Next Go to -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options
- Double click on Accounts and look for -> Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only.
- Select disable this option.
Now when you browse other computers on the network it won’t require a password.

I want to share all my programs on my other computer (laptop), I can see on my other computer(laptop), the name of this computer as if it has been connected with the other computer(laptop), but cannot see the files of my computer and programs to share on my laptop (othercomputer). Is there something more I have to do to share. I clicked on : control pannel – network and sharing, did all that but can’t see anything on my laptop, only the name of this pc.
Thank you for responding Denise

Once you do what Fedude says to get to the entry in regedit, double click on it on the right had side and a small dialog box will open.
Type 0 and click ok (hex and decimal 0 are the same value)
Close regedit.

Time is cash because the outdated saying goes, and by reading this publish, I noticed that I saved myself a variety of precious time, which might have been otherwise spent on reading low consistency info throughout the almighty web. Thanks for the straight to the point, helpful enter!
