Most windows users don’t use hibernate and wish to disable this feature. In this tutorial I’ll show you how to turn it off and on again if you decide you wish to use it.

If you don’t need your computer to Hibernate or want to turn it back on again follow the steps below.

  1. Open the Start Menu.
  2. Right click Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. To turn hibernation off type the following “powercfg -hibernate off” without the quotes.
  5. To turn Hibernation on type the following “powercfg -hibernate on” without the quotes.

Note: That if you decide to turn off hibernate in Windows Vista, it won’t show on the Start Menu.

On my computer, I have to use a “/” instead of the “-”. Just in case this was not working for someone else.
