How to disable the Windows XP Tour

Right after you finish the installation of Windows XP, it pops-up “take the Windows XP Tour and discover what the new version of Windows has to offer,” screen.

To disable this we just need to edit the registry so it doesn’t come up again.

Click Start -> Run -> Type: Regedit and navigate to the following:

  1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour
  2. Now right click on the right hand side and select Create a new “DWORD,” and call it “RunCount,” all together without the quotes.
  3. Be sure to give it a  value of 0 to disable the Windows XP Tour.

If you don’t feel comfortable editing the Windows Registry, you can download the Registry Key below. At the prompts select “OK,” twice to allow the new registry key to be inserted and you’re done!
