Sometimes you can’t access a Windows XP computer on your local network after installing Norton Anti-Virus.

Now depending on the other computers OS (Operating System) it can be a number of errors that can be related to this issue.

But to examine the errors, logon to your Windows XP computer and examine the “Event Viewer / System log file,” you will probably see the following error.

The server’s configuration parameter “irpstacksize,” is too small for the server to use a local device.

To fix this error, and regain access to your network with out uninstalling Norton, try applying the following registry fix.

  1. Go to Start -> Run -> and type Regedit
  2. Use the “+” on the left hand side to navigate to the following.
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters
  4.  Right click on IRPStackSize and give it a value of 15
  5.  Now reboot your computer and try to access the other computer on your local network.
