How to Enable Hidden Programs in Windows XP – Control Panel – Add or Remove Programs
Windows XP Tips Posted by Shawn DesRochers November 3rd, 2008By default, Windows XP Pro or Home edition does not display all the programs installed on your computer under Control Panel – Add & Remove. Now most users would rather just remove that old version of MSN Messenger that comes with Windows XP or maybe the MSN Explorer Browser?
Click read more to find out how to see them in the Add & Remove ProgramsĀ and uninstall the ones you no longer use!
First we will need to show this list of programs installed on your computer but are hidden by default:
Go to Start -> Run -> And type the following…
\Windows\Inf\sysoc.inf
You will get notpade with the following information in it, simply remove the word hide, but leave the commas in tac.
So after you remove the word hide this will leave two commas together ,, (like on the rest of the items).
Then you can go to the Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / Add/Remove Windows Components and the new items will be displayed.
Example file of the Componets with the word hide highlighted:

I certainly want to delete over 300 mb of crud drom my hd, but the acronyms used in the sysoc.inf have no meaning to me, and don’t describe the files in question. I could just remove (All) the hide statements, but is that the safe way to do this?. What these files are 2 game consols that were mounted when the compac was purchased. At one time they showed in the add/remove, but I was lazy and did not remove. I wonder if installing sp3 had a hand in hiding this stuff?
Please advise here or in email
thankyou
