Fixing Corrupted TCP/IP Files in Windows Vista
Networking Tips, Performance Tips, Windows Vista Tips Posted by Shawn DesRochers November 16th, 2008Many times after an upgrade or software install you notice the following indications that the TCP/IP File is either corrupted or damaged. Rather then do a System Restore that may cause further complications – it would be simpler to repair the TCP/IP file.

If you have any of the following symptoms you have a damaged TCP/IP file.
- Using the LAN repair function resulted in Failed to query tcp/ip settings for the connection. Cannot proceed.
- LAN Support tab contained no data at all.
- The network status constantly showed “Network cable unplugged”.
- “unable to query host name” being generated when issuing the ipconfig command.
- Could not start the ICS service.
If you suspect you have corrupted TCP/IP files, run the following:
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset
Then reboot your computer.
