- To add it back in again, a small registry edit is needed.
- Click run edit and type regedit and hit ok!
- Navigate to the following : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
“{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}”=dword:00000000 - Or you can download this reg file and then run it to do this automatically.
- Then log off and back on again.

Def. a little quirk in vista. Unfortunately, it’s a lot of work for something simple. Be extremely careful with regedit. It is the backbone of your entire OS installation. Happy Computing!
