How to Edit the Boot.ini file Windows XP
Performance Tips, Windows XP Tips Posted by Shawn DesRochers July 29th, 2009There can be many reasons why you need to edit the Boot.ini file, my personal favorite is to remove programs that I don’t use or want installed on my Windows XP like that pesky MSN Messenger.
The boot.ini file is a simple text file that is on the root of the boot drive.
You can edit this with any plain text editor like Notepad (may need to unhide the file first)
To edit your boot.ini file read the following
Before we get started you may need to unhide system files and folders, to do this simply open up a folder and select Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> then scroll down and select “Show hidden files and Folders,” and then click apply and OK.
Now to edit the Boot.ini file
- Right click on My Computer
- Select Properties
- Click on the Advanced tab
- Under Startup and Recovery, click on the Settings button
- Click on the Edit button
You should now have the boot.ini file open.
