Adding the IE 7 Icon to the Desktop in Vista

Many users of Windows Vista have found out that by default, the icon for the Internet Explorer 7 does not show up on the Windows Vista desktop.

  1. To add it back in again, a small registry edit is needed.
  2. Click run edit and type regedit and hit ok!
  3. Navigate to the following : [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
    “{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}”=dword:00000000
  4. Or you can download this reg file and then run it to do this automatically.
  5. Then log off and back on again.

    Def. a little quirk in vista. Unfortunately, it’s a lot of work for something simple. Be extremely careful with regedit. It is the backbone of your entire OS installation. Happy Computing!
