Taking Ownership Of a Folder in Windows XP

Sometimes when you reinstall Microsoft Windows XP, you can receive an Access Denied error when trying to open a previous user’s directory.

To take ownership of that folder again click read more!

Follow the steps below to take ownership again of a folder in Windows XP.

  1. Log on with an account that has administrator rights
  2. Right click on the folder and  Select Properties
  3.  Click on the Security tab
  4. Next Click on the Advanced button.
  5. Click on the Owner tab
  6. In the list of Names, click on your name To take ownership, click on Replace owner on sub containers and objects
  7. Click OK and click Yes to save changes.

Thats it your done!
